COATO’s President, Jose Luis Hernandez, was the only non-Portuguese speaker who participated on Friday 26 October at a seminar entitled “Culture of Almond: tools and strategies to the market”, held in Torre de Moncorvo (Portugal).

The seminar was opened by the Deputy Minister and Secretary of State for Rural Development and Environment of Portugal, Daniel Campelo, with whom the President had a chance to keep COATO two private meetings in which both exchanged information on the situation of the almond industry Spain, as on the position of the Government of Portugal to the reform of the CAP for the period 2014-2020, as well as the orientation of the support for rural development and the Natura 2000 network is being proposed by the Ministry of Agriculture of Portugal .

The President’s speech was developed COATO on “Concentration, processing and marketing through Almond organizations in Spain.” Jose Luis Hernandez explained both COATO path as the evolution of production, imports and exports of almonds from Spain and in the last five years, as well as detailing the number of existing producer organizations and functions and the level of concentration and performance market that perform these entities.

The representative of COATO take this opportunity to greet several private industrial sector almond with its trading partners for several years.

Several representatives of organizations nut producers in the region are concentrated north 2/3 of the country’s almond production-were interested in knowing COATO facilities and some form of deepening economic and trade cooperation, to what the President of COATO always favored that such contacts are made through the Portuguese Ministry of Agriculture, who was the organizer of the seminar.

 COATO was present this important international exhibition showing his friends and clients exported products: Almond, Honey, Paprika, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Fruit and Vegetables.

 Attendees who came to visit could taste our main products, and recently launched new recipes. Our sales team manager organizing the fair, all visitors received showing all the benefits of our products and taking note of suggestions and comments from visitors.

 Our Stand received usual customers and new contacts interested in the different formats marketed products and to develop and strengthen business partnerships to distribute and promote COATO products internationally. Our brand names: Oro Molido Oro Liquido and Ecoato; internationally established brands in over 14 countries and of course in Spain.

 COATO thanks to all visitors passing through our stand and invites to meet again in future editions, and of course, in our central facilities in Totana.

Attendees had the opportunity to know firsthand the products sold by our Cooperative horticultural, warning present our products as grapes, watermelon, lettuce and broccoli; addition, our sales team is responsible for welcoming our visitors and friends.

The overall picture is very positive both from attendees and as part of the team that was responsible for the development of the fair, because we had the opportunity to get to our main customers, discussing the current situation of the market in fruit and vegetables. Also many new potential customers took advantage to visit and get to know our company, arousing great interest in them, especially our corporate philosophy “cultivate sustainable quality from the field to the customer.”

 IFOAM EU is located in Brussels, and makes as lobby of Organic Farming in front of the European Commission and other European institutions and community institutions.

 The Director of IFOAM EU, which was accompanied by a staff member of IFOAM manager in Brussels, had expressed interest in visiting COATO, especially for being a leading company in the European organic farming, to be the greatest area of ​​organic farming has in Europe.

 IFOAM EU representatives held a meeting with the President of COATO, Jose Luis Hernandez, and several directors of this company, which also included the President and the technical coordinator of AMPOAS (Mediterranean Association of Manufacturers and Operators of Sustainable Agriculture) who is also a member of IFOAM.

 At this meeting met the trajectory and current situation in organic farming COATO and analyzed the situation of organic farming in Spain and the need for continuity of support for organic farming in the new EU rural development program 2014-2020, valuing complementary environmental services provided by organic crops.

 They also gave a review of the need to liberalize the certification of organic production in Spain, which is from private bodies in 70% of the surface, while the other 30% is certified as a monopoly from public bodies dependent of the various Departments of Agriculture.

 IFOAM representatives also made a visit to the various facilities and store COATO Bioshop in which admired and praised the wide range of products and processed organic products from raw materials from organic farms associated COATO.
