COATO is a cooperative agricultural enterprise located in the town of Totana (Murcia, Spain) next to the Autovía del Meditteráneo (highway) right in the Guadalentin valley, an area with an ingrained agricultural tradition.
It was founded in 1979 by 65 paprika pepper producers. Since then it has been set as one of the most important cooperatives of the sector, expanding its activity to other products (fresh fruits and vegetables, almond, oil, honey, etc.), obtaining along this trajectory the most important awards in terms of quality and sustainability.

Over 21.000 hectares of crops for fruit and vegetables, pepper for paprika, almond-trees and olive-trees located in the regions of Murcia, Andalucia, Valencia and Castilla la Mancha. Of these, more than 16.000 work with sustainable agriculture (organic and integrated farming).
More than 3.000 agricultural holdings in the Region of Murcia, Andalucia, Valencian community and Castilla la Mancha.
COATO counts with facilities of 50.000 square metres with modern industrial factories designed and arranged into different sections to handle, pack and transform the products.

|he first award received by COATO during our first years of activity was the Mercury Award for Exportation of the chamber of Commerce of Murcia in 1984.|

|In 2002 H.R.H. The Prince of Asturias conceded COATO the European Business Awards for the Environment 2001-2002 that COATO was awarded with by the Jury of the Spanish Edition of these awards.|
|In 2002 the European Jury of the European Business Awards for the Environment of the European Union conceded COATO this award that was handed over in Budapest by the European Environment Commission among the candidates of 25 countries members of the European Union. It was the first time a Spanish company obtained such award since the start of the awards in 1987.|
